How Course Selection Works
1
Review your plan
Check graduation requirements and your Academic and Career Plan.
2
Explore courses
Read descriptions, prerequisites, course levels, and suggested sequences.
3
Choose thoughtfully
Select requested courses and suitable alternates in case a class is unavailable.
4
Submit on time
Follow the annual directions and deadline provided to students and families.
Choose carefully before submitting a change request. Adjusting one requested course may require several other classes in the student's schedule to move. A requested change is not guaranteed because course availability, staffing, prerequisites, and scheduling conflicts must be considered.
Annual Registration Timeline
Course-selection dates and directions are announced each year. Parents and guardians will receive an email or SMS notice at least 30 days before the course registration deadline. That notice will also explain the process for requesting changes to a student's course selections.
Course Levels Explained
Standard
Regular-level high school curriculum designed to help students meet course and graduation expectations.
Honors
More challenging, in-depth, and faster-paced coursework than the standard-level course.
Advanced Placement
College-level coursework taught at MPHS using a College Board curriculum. AP examinations are optional and exam fees may apply.
Dual Enrollment
College courses offered through NOVA and taught at MPHS. Students who successfully complete the course may earn both high school and college credit.
MPHS permits students to request Advanced Placement, Dual Enrollment, Honors, and CTE courses without additional screening requirements intended to exclude enrollment; standard course prerequisites still apply.
